3 Days in Bodrum: Suggested Itineraries

One of Turkey’s most popular coastal resort towns and the gateway to the picturesque Bodrum Peninsula, Bodrum has a wealth of natural and historical sights right on its doorstep. From discovering the ruins of the ancient city of Halicarnassus to sipping cocktails on the beach, here are a few ideas for how to spend three days in this seaside city.

Day 1: Tour the city
Make a beeline for Bodrum’s most striking landmark, the imposing Castle of St Peter. Situated high on the town’s coastal cliffs, the castle houses the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology, most famous for its Bronze Age shipwreck, the Uluburun. Take a stroll along the waterfront by the marina on your way to the landmark Myndos Gate, where you’ll also find the remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Then catch a summer music concert at the atmospheric Bodrum Amphitheater, set high in the hills.

Day 2: Explore the Bodrum Peninsula
Escape the crowds for a scenic day tour of the Bodrum Peninsula to explore the traditional Turkish villages that line the coast, catch a view of the hilltop windmills or take a boat cruise to Bodrum’s neighboring islands. Gümüslük makes another popular day trip destination, where you can explore the underwater ruins of ancient Myndos or swim out to nearby Rabbit Island.

Day 3: Hit the beach
You can’t visit the Aegean coast without enjoying the beaches’ fine sands and clear, warm waters. The ones in Bodrum are ideal for swimming and sunbathing, while also providing ample opportunities for snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing. If you’re looking for more action, swap the beach for slides and wave pools at the enormous Dedeman Aquapark.
