Australian National Botanic Gardens

Bringing together plants from around the country, Canberra’s Australian National Botanic Gardens are an inspirational and relaxing destination on the city’s western edge.

Vegetation environments from around the nation have been imaginatively re-created in 90 hectares (223 acres) of former bushland on the lower slopes of Black Mountain.

From the lush rainforest gully to lawns studded with eucalyptus, this is a stunning setting for Australia’s unique flora.

Walkways meander through the various gardens, including an Aboriginal Plant Use walk that explains the plants’ many medicinal and practical uses. Look out for the water dragon lizards sunning themselves by the rock garden pools.
