Winter Adventures in Lapland

As exciting as an encounter with Santa Claus may be, Father Christmas is just one of many reasons to come to Lapland in winter. This snowy wonderland also offers husky sledding, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and Northern Lights-viewing safaris. Here are your options for winter fun in Lapland.

Husky Sled Rides
Let a team of adorable huskies pull you through the snow-covered wilderness on a dog-sled ride. Be whisked across rural Lapland through pristine snowy landscapes, before warming up with a hot drink back at the husky farm.

Reindeer Farm Visits
Reindeers play a vital role in rural Lappish communities in Northern Finland. During visits to reindeer farms, you can meet the herders who take care of these Arctic animals, as well as the reindeers themselves, before taking a reindeer-pulled sleigh ride through the snowy environs.

Northern Lights Hunting
In the snow-smothered wilderness of the Arctic Circle, far away from the polluting glare of the big city lights, Mother Nature puts on one of her most spectacular shows. Visitors can travel into the wilderness on a snowmobile, scanning the skies for the spectacular display of the aurora borealis.

Ice Fishing
A popular Lappish hobby, ice fishing takes place on frozen lakes. In the company of an expert ice fisher, you’ll get to try your own hand at the sport, dropping your line through a hole drilled in the frozen lake’s surface, and waiting for fish in the non-frozen lower levels of the lake to take the bait. Some tours combine ice fishing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.
