Livorno Cruise Port

133 omdömen
A busy, modern container terminal set on the Mediterranean Sea, the Livorno cruise port serves as a cruisers’ gateway to the rest of the famed Italian region of Tuscany. With just a few attractions of its own, this port city is known as the cruise port for Florence and is mainly visited as a transportation hub and jumping-off point into Tuscany and central Italy.

The Basics
Travelers docking at the Livorno cruise port generally head out on full-day shore excursions to explore nearby Tuscan cities. Within relatively easy reach of Livorno are Florence, the jewel of Renaissance Italy and home to Michelangelo’s David (56 miles or 90 km away); Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa (15 miles or 24 km away); Lucca, a small medieval walled city (31 miles or 50 km away); the Cinque Terre (78 miles or 125 km away); and Forte dei Marmi, an elite beach resort (36 miles or 58 km away). Some popular options combine trips to Florence and Pisa; Siena and San Gimignano; or the Chianti wine region and the Tuscan countryside.

How to Get to Livorno from the Livorno Cruise Port
Large cruise ships dock at a working industrial site, so travelers are not permitted to walk around the area. Shore excursion tours generally include port pickup and dropoff, but shuttle buses are also available to take visitors from the port of Livorno to Piazza Grande in the city center. From here, it’s possible to grab a taxi or take a five-minute ride on bus No. 1 to the train station and then head to Florence and Pisa. Many train station newspaper kiosks sell tickets, which can save you time. Getting to Florence takes just over an hour by train; Pisa and Lucca are closer.

Port Information
Italians speak fast in their native language, so it may sometimes be a challenge to communicate in English, especially in taxis. The currency is the euro.
