3 Days in Mazatlan: Suggested Itineraries

The city of Mazatlan, on the west coast of Mexico, is unique among beach resort areas with its mix of historic and contemporary. Here when the weather is cloudy or the skin is too burned, there’s a real city with character to explore beyond the surf. While tourism is important here, it’s not the only game in town. This keeps prices in check and means you can meet plenty of locals who don’t have anything to do with catering to visitors. Mazatlan can keep you occupied for a week-long vacation, but here are the highlights for a quick visit.

Day 1 – Enjoy your first full day with some beach time, either where your hotel is located or on an excursion to Stone Island or Estero Ecological Reserve. If staying close to your hotel, take a Hobe Cat sailboat ride to see the coast and Deer Island from the water. Dine on seafood by the water for lunch and take a stroll on the beach at sunset.

Day 2 – Take a pulmonia for transportation and if you’re a family, visit the local aquarium and bird complex. Otherwise head to Machado Plaza and tour the historic zone by foot. Visit the local church and market on the edge, then return to the square for lunch. Walk a few blocks west and walk along the sea on the malecon. Return here for a drink after visiting El Faro nearby by pulmonia or return to your hotel.

Day 3 – Venture into the countryside to go ziplining or explore villages, or take one of the other excursion trips for a nature tour. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the beach and dining near your hotel.
