Top Day Trips from Vancouver

While there’s plenty to keep travelers busy in Vancouver, it also makes a great base to explore other parts of British Columbia. From the West Coast’s most beautiful highway to wine-country adventures, here are some day trip ideas from Vancouver.

Victoria — 62 miles (100 km) away
Located on Vancouver Island, Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia and also one of the Pacific Northwest’s oldest cities, settled in 1843. The ferry ride to Vancouver Island passes by some of the most beautiful scenery in British Columbia, and whether you’re heading to Victoria to see Butchart Gardens, go whale watching, or check out the second-oldest Chinatown in North America, a day trip is well worth your time.

Fraser Valley Wine Country — 76 miles (121 km) away
British Columbia is rapidly becoming known as one of North America’s up-and-coming wine-producing regions. Adults 19 and older can enjoy a private tour to the Fraser Valley, including the opportunity to stop at five different wineries and enjoy a gourmet 3-course lunch featuring local produce and wild British Columbia salmon.

Whistler — 78 miles (125 km) away
Whistler is one of the most popular day trip destinations from Vancouver, especially as there are plenty of shuttles that go back and forth all year round. (The drive, which follows the breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway, takes about 90 minutes.) Best known as a winter wonderland for snowboarding and skiing, Whistler is also popular during the summer months for hiking and mountain biking.
