Ways to Celebrate Christmas in Vancouver

With lights, trees, and decorations, Canada’s largest West Coast city is a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays. From sleigh rides and Santa Claus visits to excursions into British Columbia’s snow-covered landscapes, here are just a few ways to ensure your Christmas in Vancouver is a merry one.

See the City Illuminated
From late November to early January, Vancouver shows off its holiday spirit with dazzling lights displays at locations such as Stanley Park, where more than 3 million twinkling bulbs are hung as part of the Christmas Bright Nights program. Vancouver’s VanDusen Botanical Gardens also hosts the Christmastime Festival of Lights, an annual holiday show.

Take Part in Christmas Festivities
Located 15 minutes from Downtown Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver hosts a number of holiday festivities of its own, with Christmas trees and themed activities (cookie decorating, Christmas-carol singing, card making, and more), as well the Canyon Lights display. Nearby Grouse Mountain, a skiing and snowboarding hub, celebrates the season with the Peak of Christmas festival, which features ice skating, live music, sledding, Santa meet-and-greets, and sleigh rides.

Venture Out into a Snowy Winter Wonderland
While you’re more likely to experience rain than snow in Vancouver, you don’t have to travel far to find a winter wonderland. Inhale the crisp winter air as you snowshoe through the pristine winter landscape while admiring views of forests and ice-capped mountains.

Hunt the Northern Lights
Gift yourself the ultimate Christmas treat with a wintertime Northern Lights tour. On a multi-day escape departing from Vancouver, travel north to the snow-covered wilderness of the Yukon, where you’ll go wildlife viewing by day and scan the skies in search of the Aurora Borealis by night.
