Only do this if you have a lot of time in Barcelona, and do not live near any mountains where you are from. It was nice scenery, but a lot of driving. You are in the bus for good 5 hours and also train for 1 hour. The stop in the town of Vic was nice (this is where you NEED to get some snacks and water) as they don't provide for on excursion. You can get some food at the Pyrenees but not much variety and not that great. Provide you with a drink but an hour away from Barcelona on the way back.
This is very pretty mountainous country! For November onwards, do not expect to have ANY hike. Our group did not have that option and at the top of the mountain there was little to do for two hours but be inside. The mountain was very cold with 50 KM winds, which can be common I understand right now. It is stunning mountain scenery but I wish the description of the day would match the season. Also, once at the top any hike would be all too close to the hotel to give a sense of it being away from the area. Our guide however was friendly and knowledgeable, and it was a small group as advertised. Hearing the details of each area was enjoyable.
This was a wonderful day trip, visiting the Pyrenees along with walks around Vic and Querabls. Gloria ( and driver, Andres) was our awesome guide and she was so knowledgeable, helpful, and positive. It was my 2nd time in Barcelna but my 1st time on this tour. I’d definitely recommend this tour!
If you're looking for sight-seeing rather than activities, this may be an ok tour. We saw beautiful views and the towns we stopped in were picturesque. This could be a good tour for those who want to see the mountain but aren't able to hike, as the gondola and cog train do all of the work and give fantastic views. Those looking for an active tour will be disappointed.
The tour description states that there would be time for hiking, horseback riding, and boating in the mountains. This simply wasn't true. We only got 1.5 hours on the mountain, which was barely enough to hike up the ski slope, eat our lunch, and take the gondola down. Others in our group took the gondola up and walked down, but no one had more than about an hour to do anything, because we had to eat lunch there eating on the bus was not allowed. There were horses on the mountain, but no opportunity to ride them. Instead of spending time on the mountain, we spent an hour and a half in the sleepy town of Vic a cute town, but not worth so much time and about an hour walking around Queralbs, which was completely deserted and had little to do or see.
Our guide was not knowledgeable at all. He couldn't answer basic questions about the towns we saw. He also didn't manage time well, making us wait in the mountain's lodge while he got tickets and maps and then explained the map. All of that should have been done while we were awaiting the cog train, not eating into our time on the mountain.
This small group tour was actually 16ish people, so not really small. There was a lot of driving, which we expected, but also a lot of waiting - for the guide, for the train, for the bus. Explore Catalunya has everyone meet for their tours at their office in Barcelona, then we walked to our separate buses about 4 blocks away. This wasted a lot of time compared to other tours we took with other companies where we met at the van.
Our tour was serviced by Explore Catalunya and this tour company made the experience worthwhile by giving us the best tour guide ever, Steven. He is full of knowledge, funny and always on hand to give recommendations on other things to do in Barcelona, best restaurants etc. The Pyrenees mountains was beautiful. Nice short hike and tour of small town was awesome.
We recommend this tour for people who love the outdoors.
